Fojtan/Festulolium, type tall fescue The route to high yield and persistence All-round variety for dry or wet areas | | Yield | Persistency | Drought tolerance | Feeding value
Very high yield of DM Suited for grazing Better feeding value than tall fescue Adapted to dry and wet conditions
Robust and persistent
Fojtan is the result of a crossing between Italian Ryegrass and Tall Fescue. The appearance of Fojtan is much like tall fescue and the two species share many properties: Very high yield potential in combination with high persistency, drought resistance and tolerance to periodical flooding. Main difference is the better feeding value in Fojtan.
Forage quality
The feeding value (energy concentration)of Fojtan is better than Tall Fescue, but not at the level of Perennial Ryegrass. In a mixture with i.e. ryegrasses and/or white clover, Fojtan will however deliver forage of a type which is very well suited in may situations.
Later than Hykor
Fojtan is of the same type as the well-known variety Hykor, but has 4-6 days later ear-emergence. This makes Fojtan a perfect partner in mixtures with intermediate diploid perennial ryegrass, where Fojtan improves persistency and drought tolerance.
