Tall fescue(Festuca arundinacea L.)
With its big and deep root network, tall fescue is one of the most drought- and heat tolerant grasses, and it produces feed in periods when other grasses have stopped growing. Tall fescue is very healthy and the leaves are quite coarse. There are major differences in the varieties' ability to tolerate frost. Tall fescue is used especially for cutting and grazing in southern Europe and in equivalent hot dry conditions but DLF-TRIFOLIUM has also very winterhardy varieties.
Breeding is focused on developing varieties which:
-
combine good taste and soft leaves with high tolerance to drought
-
are resistant to leaf diseases (rust, xanthomonas, helminthosporium)
-
are productive in summer and autumn.
